- I’m Choosing Understanding Over Finishing the Book.
It's beautiful how slowly I'm moving through Learning Science.
Part of me keeps whispering that I'll never finish this book if I continue at this pace.
The other part reminds me that I'd rather build understanding than simply finish another book.
That thought reminded me of something a retired Performance Analyst, Instructional Architect, and award-winning Enterprise L&D consultant, Guy W Wallace, once shared with me:
"Give yourself time. As it takes time to absorb and then apply and learn from what you do and what works."
So that's exactly what I'll do.
Learn → Apply → Reflect → Repeat.
Guy W Wallace also encouraged me with something I'll probably remember for a long time:
"I like that you are sharing your journey. That's helpful for so many others."
I hope these posts help even one person see learning from a perspective they hadn't considered before.
Another idea that's been sitting with me came from one of Gary Vaynerchuk's recent article.
He wrote:
"If you want people to start listening to you, you have to show up."
That hit me.
So many of us hesitate because we're waiting to publish the perfect article, the perfect video, or the perfect post.
We compare ourselves to creators who've spent years building their craft, forgetting they also started somewhere.
The thumbnail of Gary's article said it perfectly:
"Document, Don't Create."
That simple phrase reinforced something I've been trying to live by.
It's one of the reasons volume matters so much to me.
Every post teaches me something.
Every explanation sharpens my thinking.
Every question exposes another gap in my understanding.
Honestly, I'm still surprised I can translate what's in my head into writing.
I used to think I wasn't a good writer (apparently i'm still not).
Looking back, I think public speaking taught me how to organize my thoughts. Writing simply became another way of expressing them.
The path ahead isn't crystal clear.
But my next step is.
My next page.
My next note.
My next flashcard.
My next mental model.
My next post.
Juggling all of this alongside a 9-to-5 isn't easy.
It demands time, energy, and sacrifice.
But In Sha ALLAH, I'll keep showing up.
Maybe one day this journey itself will become part of the story I get to tell.
Building better days through the sacrifices I choose today.
The Quinn Seeds begin next.
Day 28 of Instructional Design.

Where this comes from
- Check out "Learning Science" by Clark Quinn — If you design learning, teach, or train people, you need to understand what is actually happening when someone learns. Learning happens at the neural level, but we design for it at the cognitive level. There’s a lot more in Clark Quinn’s book that I can’t share because of **intellectual property**. Get the book and experience the learning yourself. 📚You Would Love It!
- Check out "40 L&D Stakeholder Challenges: Of L&D Leaders, Practitioners, Clients, and Learners" by Guy W. Wallace — This book shares the answers I got from my EPPI-PACT Guidance Bot. The free EPPI-PACT Guidance Bot is a digital, interactive knowledge-transfer resource designed to help Learning and Development (L&D) practitioners, performance consultants, and business leaders master and apply Guy W. Wallace’s Performance Improvement and Performance Based L&D methodologies.
