- Learning Science Is the Foundation But the Foundation Is Still Evolving
Cognitive science has established some solid foundations and some new revelations
In one of my recent posts, I spoke about how the fact that if something makes you better at one activity, doesn't mean it will make you better at everything else.
Good instructional designers rely on evidence, not hype.
Scientists have already discovered many things about how people learn that we can trust.
As Clark Quinn mentioned
“Cognitive science has established some solid foundations and some new revelations”
Think of Instructional Design like building a house
Before we even get to the phase of decoration it i.e visuals design and multimedia
We need a strong foundation…
And that strong foundation is “Learning Science”
Learning science has already built that foundation but scientists are still making new discoveries, and so learning science keeps growing.
Imagine your favorite game getting new updates.
The game is already good...
But every now and then, the creators add something new.
Same thing applies to Learning science and this is one of the reason why Clark Quinn advises us to make it a habit to read journals…
See you in the next one…
That's where things will start getting intresting...

Where this comes from
- Learning Science by Clark Quinn — If you design learning, teach, or train people, you need to understand what is actually happening when someone learns. Learning happens at the neural level, but we design for it at the cognitive level. There’s a lot more in Clark Quinn’s book that I can’t share because of **intellectual property**. Get the book and experience the learning yourself. 📚You Would Love It!
